Devoid of thought
and missing my memories,
I scour the web for contact.
Finding none,
I turn vacantly
to the window.
But I'm not one to suffer
in silence;
all my screams
are in my head.
It's the irony of the free wifi age
that we can't find a true connection.
We've all projected our perfected selves
into a selfie virtual nexus.
Thumbs up emoji
and the ubiquitous likes
have replaced hugs and handshakes.
I find myself at all hours of day and night
hungering for just one more comment.
And when it comes...
it's tepid at best;
empty caloric intake.
And I wish
that I could have it back,
the time wasted waiting for
your contact.
