You're staring down the fictions
of what I want to be
starting with the friction
between myself and me

The oceans of your eyes
make me think you're true.
The wine that's passed between us,
a toast to me and you.

We walked along the harbor
just trying to find the sun,
laughing at the madness
of what we've just begun.

The crescent moon is rising
over the sea;
Venus is reflecting
thoughts of you and me.

I held you for a moment,
it must've been a dream.
Harsh light of the morning,
and you are gone from me.

I draw the shades upon
the dark room of my mind
and try reflecting on
what must be left behind.

From a plane ascending east,
I can see the beach,
almost out of view
but just within reach.

Upon returning home,
I try to write our song;
it hurts down to the bone
and it's only two chords long.

And I'm tearing down the fictions
of what I wanna be.
