Day In The Life

from Stuck In A Groove by Frank D. Hill

/

lyrics

On the lake at dawn
the city looking on
waves leave their impressions on my mind

Silhouetted trees
against the blue-black breeze;
bird sings of the things I've left behind.

You've been gone for years
but it seems like yesterday
I held you in the sand along this shore.
A blanket for our fears and the chill of a new day -
how I long to see your face once more.

Sun beats back the day
keeps the world at bay
people running here and there for pay.
Walking down the street,
give a nod to those I meet -
weary strangers walking weary miles

The alleys of this city
like some labyrinthine poem
penned by a fever addled mind
stretch out for miles
beyond the rush and toil.
A lonely picker drags his tin can spoils.

Night draws the curtain down.
The city presses on
keeping pace with a rhythm all its own.

Flashing neon signs
crowding out the stars,
music pours out from a passing car.

Sitting at the window
with a whiskey in my hand.
Memories of a life that's passed me by.

Fighting back the tears
that strangle up my mind,
wishing I could leave this old world behind.
