Stuck In A Groove

from Stuck In A Groove by Frank D. Hill

lyrics

Struggling to hear my own tune
in the slanted rhymes of someone else's song,
but all I find are the ruins and shadows of old loves
and the embers of what we thought was gone.

Tonight I'll find a bottle for my memories
and if I'm lucky they'll just give up and drown,
but more likely they'll resurface like the rising of the sun
and I'll have to slowly kill them one by one.

I'm on the outside,
looking in through the glass.
You may not notice me
cause I'm mostly living in the past.
I'm in the pouring rain,
but I can feel the sun at my back
and when I turn around to face the blinding light,
you'll be right there the first thing on my mind.

(CHORUS)
Cause like a broken record, I'm stuck in a groove;
I go round and round, but I don't really move.
And don't bother calling out my name in the night
Cause I'm not really there, and you won't get it right.

These days I wake before the sunrise
and in the quickening hours I write myself some dreams,
but as the day proceeds to hurl the sun across the sky
I'll be damned if I can remember what they mean.

Everything I'm saying is made of surface,
and the people that I meet all speak in memes;
the talking heads on the screen of that money machine
make me sure the world's as jacked up as it seems.

Don't steal my laughter, it's all that I have left.
My sense of outrage has numbed me to the rest.
It doesn't bother me to be standing on this ledge.
I've got a great view and I can see the edge of night.
I want to go there and breathe the dying light.
